DEBBIE HAN The Eye of Perception
Exhibition opens 5 November 2010
The Cat Street Gallery is proud to present the first solo exhibition in Hong Kong for the 2009 Sovereign Asian Art Prize Winner, Debbie Han. The Eye of Perception brings together much of Han’s sculptural, photographic and installation work of the past decade together, highlighting the potent creative and conceptual prowess of the artist.
In her highly acclaimed practice, Han navigates the boundaries of photography and sculpture. The artist works in both extremely contemporary materials, such as pioneering digitally manipulated photography, as well as exploring ancient Asian mediums such as celadon, inlaid lacquer and porcelain.
The artist’s work is characterised by the dual forces of painstaking, diverse craftsmanship and provocative concepts that demand attention. Her approach is designed to address questions of identity and larger social patterns in global societies today. Central to Han’s work is an enduring interest in how human experience is shaped and conditioned by contemporary culture.
