Vanessa Wong is a practicing artist born and raised in Hong Kong.
Through her work Wong explores the relationship between human desires and objects under the mechanism of consumerism. Wong’s watercolor and oil paintings integrate pop culture elements and powerful human desire centered around the contemporary world we live in.
The ‘Entity’ series contains an abundant amount of details, juxtaposing human organs with items that interest Wong such as junk food, high heels, fashion items, machine components, advertising, and packaging. By applying highly saturated and candy-like colors, Wong is trying to deliver a sense of seductiveness and oddity through her works.
Wong received her Fine Arts Degree from the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology in 2012. Her works have been shown in the Urban Bakery Art Exhibition, Hong Kong Contemporary Art Exhibition, Hong Kong Cancer Fund Charity Auction and Pao Galleries. Wong’s works are well collected and are part of various private collections. YOUNG BLOOD is Wong’s first art exhibition being held in a commercial art gallery.
