Lara Merrett's amorphic and imaginative paintings convey a dynamic energy through their vibrancy. The work can be viewed as explorations into the abstract, but also the figurative at times. Seductive smooth surfaces and washes of colour dominate the sophisticated compositions. The viewer is presented with a multi-layered organic visual experience. Recently Merrett has employed discrete areas of pointillist detailing and metallic paints that add curiousity and depth to the paintings.
Merrett's canvases can be seen as spiritual meditations on our physical environments, but also emotional and psychological experiences that generate overwhelming feelings beyond the everyday.
Lara was born in 1971 in Melbourne, Australia, currently works and lives in Sydney. She gained both of her Bachelor and Master of Arts degree in University of New South Wales, Australia. Having extensively exhibited in Australia, Lara's pieces are also in the collection of Artbank, Melbourne; University of New South Wales, Sydney; Macquarie Bank and UBS Australia.
