EMILY YOUNG
Emily Young is an internationally renowned sculptor and is widely regarded as one of the finest living carvers working today. A pioneer in her field, she has been a forceful presence for over three decades. Young creates the large and complex pieces by hand, or when required fabricated with the aid of high technology. Her presiding value is to show the natural beauty constructed in the physical history of each piece of stone. This approach allows the viewer to participate in a profound way with the planet we all share. Allied with traditional carving skills, a rare and poetic presence, both contemporary and ancient, is created.

The recent works on display show an artist at the height of her creative powers. Arcoiris Head is made from an exquisite and utterly rare stone, its vibrant colour stirations formed by the minerals in water that pass through the surface over millions of year. Sourced from a now defunct quarry in Mexico, the artist presents us with a true natural marvel, deftly rendered in human form with the lightest of touches.

Young lives and works in Santa Croce, Italy. She studied at Chelsea and St Martins. She has traveled widely, including extended visits to Afganhistan, India, Pakistan, Italy, France and the Middle East. Emily Young’s work is in collections in both the public and private sectors across the globe including in The Imperial War Museum, Kew Gardens and St Paul’s Churchyard, London, Salisbury Cathedral and La Défense, Paris.
