BELINDA FOX

The Cat Street Gallery is delighted to present Australian artist Belinda Fox’s debut solo show, Hua Ping, in Hong Kong.

Fox’s paintings are delicate works, loaded with meaning. Existing somewhere between light figuration and subtle abstraction, the artist’s layered surfaces are emotive and uplifting. Fox takes a very personal approach to her art, drawing inspiration from her own life and how she navigates the world. Always drawing from her own experience, each work is a layered symphony of form and line.

Fox's debut solo show title 'Hua Ping' has a double meaning in Mandarin of Flower Vase and Safe and Sound. It is said that having open vessels in ones home brings safety and good fortune to the household and it is with this in mind, in her new home in Singapore, that Fox embarked on her latest body of work. The show is comprised of a series of striking ceramic vases that sit along side her paintings, each displaying abstract shapes that shift and grow into new forms. Displaying elements that she is well known for, such as her delicate mark marking and web like paths, the pieces explore fragments and connections, with images bleeding from one panel to the next. The result is a breathtaking collection with an intriguing dialogue between 2D and 3D objects that are sometimes romantic and always contemplative.

Belinda Fox received her BA in Printmaking at The Victoria College of the Arts in 1996 and her Graduate Diploma from The University of Melbourne in 1999. In 2009 Fox was listed amongst The Australian Art Collector’s 50 Most Collectible Artists. Her work is in numerous collections including The National Gallery of Australia, National Gallery of Victoria, Artbank, The Print Council Of Australia, Banyule City Council, Burnie Art Gallery Tasmania, Wollongong University New South Wales, Fremantle Arts Centre, and Swan Hill Regional Gallery in Victoria.
